Shawn Johnson. I just got a press release from the Cardinals (+2 “Blogger Trying to Sound Cool” points), and it appears that recent Olympics Gold Medalist, Shawn Johnson, will be making an appearance during the All Star Game Festivities in a few weeks. This from the Cardinals:
Gold Medalist and Stand Up to Cancer Ambassador Shawn Johnson is proudly showing her support for cancer research by joining baseball greats Lou Brock, Rollie Fingers, Brooks Robinson and Vince Coleman to cheer on the participants at the first-ever All-Star Charity 5K & Fun Run on Sunday, July 12. Johnson, a four-time medalist at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, will kick-start the event by beginning the race and encouraging fans as they complete the course.
Honestly, I’m glad to hear Shawn Johnson will be “encouraging fans” as they compete. This is a good news for runners in the All Star weekend 5K. The last thing I want to see while battling 100 degree heat, while running a 5K, is Vince Coleman. Yikes.
Tony La Russa. In a recent poll of unnamed of Major League players (seriously, can we stop these “unanimous surveys and polls of Major Leaguers), 10% said that they would least like to play for Cardinals skipper, Tony La Russa. Lou Piniella came in first with 26% of the vote. Milton Bradley was unavailable for comment.
Jeff Suppan. The 2006 Cardinals playoff hero is up for bid on eBay. Seriously. Well, not seriously. Who the hell knows. It’s just safe to say that the Brewers faithful isn’t happy with Mr. Suppan’s performance over the past few seasons. Let’s focus on the real issue, here. Can you legitimately auction off Major League Baseball players? If so, I’d love to throw JD Drew out there with a “Buy It Now” option for Philadelphia fans, free shipping and inclusion of a pack of Energizers.
